Help for 90 year old gentleman to access much needed pain medication
A Joining the Dots facilitator recently visit a 90 year old gentleman with terminal facial cancer and suspected pancreatic cancer.
The gentleman’s palliative care nurse had been supporting with pain management and he had been prescribed some pain medication. When we spoke to the gentleman it became apparent this medication was due to run out in a couple of days and he hasn’t had another prescription delivered by the pharmacy. As it was Friday, he was particularly concerned that he would not be able to get support for this over the weekend. Adding to his problem was that he struggles to hear the pharmacy over the phone. Joining the Dots stepped in to liaise with the pharmacy and GP to make sure that he didn’t go without this important medication.
After chatting with the pharmacy and identifying his mediation had not been prescribed to dispense, our facilitator spoke to the GP surgery to make sure the prescription was actioned and followed up with the pharmacy to ensure the medication was delivered as soon as possible to avoid him running out over the weekend.
We helped ‘join the dots’ to make sure that this gentleman had his prescribed medication when he needed it to have a comfortable weekend.
